There are so many conflicting voices in the healthcare and wellness arenas. One day, we are told that X is healthy, and the next day someone else tells us it’s unhealthy. Rules, dogmas, diets, and restrictions promise that we’ll be healthier today. It seems like being healthy means to have no fun!
If there’s anything I dislike with a passion, it’s DIETING. It makes me sad when I see people counting calories, obsessing over their weight, and “punishing” themselves for “cheating” on their diet. Granted, these people mostly have good intentions. It’s probably the only way they know how to “get healthy.” Unfortunately, good health is much, much more than calorie-counting and restriction. A calorie from an oven-roasted sweet potato fry basted in coconut oil is vastly different than a calorie from a French fry soaked in soybean oil. But we’ll get into those details another time.
In general, our society wants to be healthy. It’s evident from the way many grocery stores and restaurants are changing. They’re becoming more aware of food allergies, and many grocery stores have ample selection of organic items. But just because something says “organic” or even worse, “natural,” does not mean it’s healthy for us. It can be really difficult to wade through the marketing. When getting healthy becomes confusing, many people give up. It’s not because they’re lazy. It’s because we get tired. Our mental capacity becomes limited after a long day at work. We want to come home and not have to think too much about how we’re going to feed our hungry family.
As a registered nurse, I want to cut through the noise and confusion of our modern “health world.” My primary job as a nurse is to be a patient educator. (I didn’t know this until I was in nursing school! But it fit me perfectly because I’ve always had the heart of a teacher.) I want to bring you simple steps on how to “healthify” your life. Yeah, I made that word up – but it summarizes what we want to accomplish. So many people desire simple instructions on how to make that first step toward wellness, but they don’t know where to look.
The good news is that you don’t have to look any further. (Sorry, that’s cheesy!) I have created an exclusive PDF document just for people like you, called “12 Ways to Healthify Your Life Today.” It’s not the Warrior Life Wellness dogma. It’s simply a list of habits that you can implement in order to make your life a little more healthy. They give you a springboard from which to grow vibrant wellness in your life! Whether you are totally new to breaking out of the Standard American Diet and sedentary lifestyle, or you want to embark on a new chapter of your wellness journey, this is for YOU. I also provide a list of resources and brands that I trust and have confidence in recommending. (Because let’s face it: it’s one thing to know what to do, but it’s another to know where to find stuff.)
Please send me the Healthify guide and get me on the path to wellness!
Not only am I a nurse, but I’m also a normal human being who went through her own health transformation. At 18, I went to music conservatory. I was the college kid who ate dessert after lunch AND dinner, who ate Ramen noodles, and who didn’t eat much salad. (And when she did, it was coated in Ranch dressing.) I gained the “Freshman 20” and never seriously worked out during college. Less than ten years later, I had a health crisis in which I became underweight and undernourished. I had to heal my gut and get my stress under control. I had to learn that good health was more than just the food choices I made. I’ve experienced the reality that eating a perfect diet isn’t the only key to being well. This reality is reflected in the Healthify guide.
Your body was meant to be healthy and to function properly. Modern life might try to sabotage us, but we don’t have to succumb to undesirable habits. We CAN break free and become vibrantly healthy. I’m healthier now in my 30’s than I was in my 20’s. Your genes don’t define you, and you have a lot more control than you might feel. It just takes baby steps. (Unless you’re the type of person who wants to jump all in. Then go for it!)
